An early 20th century French ‘Pique Assiette’ Vase.
Pique assiette is a style of mosaic that incorporates ceramic shards, broken china and other found objects into a design. It directly translates to ‘plate thief’ and ‘broken plate’ which fits the brief entirely as the shards are scavenged and naively placed.
A beautiful piece, one of the best I’ve seen incorporating a huge variety of different sized collected shards and assembled wonderfully. One small piece is missing but is hardly noticeable and there is a small repair (pictured).
